Tours / DEVELER6: Accademia Gallery with the David by Michelangelo

Those who come to Florence for their first time cannot miss it. The Accademia Gallery houses some of the most famous works of art from the Italian Renaissance, the museum where priceless paintings by Florentine masters and the original David by Michelangelo are stored. Here you will find a collection of the world's best examples of fine arts, which set precedent for future art all around the world.

The most famous work of art in the Accademia Gallery is Michelangelo's David, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Renaissance sculpture. Created from a single block of marble between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo Buonarroti, the 'David' is a 5.17 metre (17 ft) marble statue of the biblical figure of David, one of the favourite subjects of artists in Florence. During our private tour we invite you to experience the thrill of seeing the original Michelangelo's David up close and feel the energy of this symbol of art in the world.

The Galleria of Accademia is also home for the collection of plaster models of the neoclassical sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini and to the famous Michelangelo sculptures of San Matteo. There is also the Palestine Pieta and unfinished statues of Slaves for the tombstone of Pope Julius II. Another adornment of the Gallery is a copy of The Abduction of the Sabine Women from the plaster of Giambologna, the original of which is stored in Loggia dei Lanzi. A guided tour of the Accademia will give you a deeper understanding of the art and history on display.
