Tours / Genoa: a walk in the historic center with a taste of the legendary Genoese focaccia!

Are you in Genoa for a day, perhaps passing through or are you docked on a dream cruise ship?

Don't miss the opportunity to visit Genoa without wasting time, because it's really worth it. Genoa, a very elegant city, was defined by the medieval poet Francesco Petrarca as "the Superb" for its imposing buildings and the character of its citizens!
Our tour starts from Palazzo San Giorgio, a colorful building that was once called the Palazzo del Mare, when the sea actually reached it. Today the building is the headquarters of the Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea. In this neighborhood you can visit the small shops overlooking the arcades, called Portici di Sottoripa, which are the oldest shop arcades in Europe.
From here we will go to the Cathedral of Genoa, San Lorenzo, an artistic wonder of Romanesque and Gothic art. Our guide will show you the little dog depicted on the facade and will explain its legend.
A few steps from San Lorenzo is the Palazzo Ducale, which was the ancient residence of the Doges of Genoa.
From here we just need to raise our eyes and a grandiose square opens up in front of us with an enormous monumental fountain. Welcome to Piazza De Ferrari! The Carlo Felice theater overlooks this square, one of the most famous theaters in the world, where the maestro Niccolò Paganini even played in the nineteenth century.
For some time we will detach ourselves from the grandeur of the square to enter the famous "caruggi", the very narrow streets within the city.

Here we will stop to taste the Genoese focaccia. What is it? Soft white bread with a salty crust and sprinkled with olive oil. The focaccia must be tasted, you can't tell!

Genoa is the city that gave birth to the navigator Christopher Columbus, the best known navigator in the world for being the first to land on the American continent. Therefore it will be a must to pass in front of the House of Columbus, even if it is an eighteenth-century reconstruction.
Passing through Piazza delle Fontane Marose we will enter via Garibaldi, where the palaces of the families of the Genoese merchant nobility still stand. We will see imposing buildings such as the Palazzo Bianco, the Palazzo Rosso and the Palazzo Tursi, which today is the seat of the Municipality of Genoa.
The time has come to go up to the Spianata di Castelletto to enjoy a breathtaking view of the splendid city of Genoa. The lift is also wonderful, in retro style!
