Palazzo Davanzati is a typical Florentine noble residence of the fourteenth century, preserved almost intact after the last changes undergone in 1838. It was owned by the Davizzi family, merchants and bankers of Florence and then by the wealthy Davanzati who purchased it in 1578. Palazzo Davanzati in its complex is an interesting testimony of passage from the medieval tower house to the Renaissance residence. Today the Palace houses the headquarters of the Museum of the Ancient Florentine House where you can journey through time and explore the habits of the aristocracy in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
The museum was abandoned several times and even offered its furniture for sale, until the Italian State purchased it in 1951. It was then definitively set up as a typical Florentine home of the fourteenth century.
Inside, the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati preserves an exceptional collection of artifacts, works, and furnishings that testify to the various changes in ownership and intended use that have occurred over time.
The halls of the palace are richly decorated. The most famous are the Sala dei Pappagalli and the Sala dei Pavoni where a work attributed to the young Filippo Brunelleschi is kept: the Madonna and Child.
