Tours / Palermo: three-hour city tour through the city of the “Conca d'Oro”

Palermo is the main stop on your trip to Sicily and one of the most beautiful cities you will visit on your Mediterranean cruise, in case you disembark the ship for a day.

We thought of you, who want to see this enchanted city in half a day, without wasting even a minute of time deciding where to go and which direction to take in this place that smells of oranges and citrus fruits!

We'll think about it! Our authorized and expert guide will show you the majestic Teatro Massimo and the story of Ignazio Florio, who inaugurated it in 1897, together with members of the Sicilian aristocracy, with extremely elegant ladies adorned with jewels.

Your guide will then take you to see the fabulous Arab-Norman style cathedral, which contains the body and relics of Santa Rosalia, the Patron Saint of Palermo.

All the secrets linked to the traditional celebrations of the Saint and the popular devotion for this Patron Saint who is so famous throughout the world will be revealed to you.

Not far away is Piazza dei Quattro Canti, the ancient place of the "Gallows", where capital executions took place.

This square is the center of Palermo and you will be surprised by the enigmatic and monumental statues located right in the four corners of the square, that is, in the four "canti".

Still nearby, there is Piazza Pretoria, with the Fountain of Shame, built in the sixteenth century by Florentine workers for Luis Alvarez de Toledo, whose sister Eleonora had married the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I. The Fountain was sold to the Praetor of Palermo, who paid a lot of money for it, due to the costs of shipping from Florence and the assembly of the hundreds of pieces into which it had been divided to facilitate its journey. This is why it was called the Fountain of Shame!

You can't miss a stop at Capo, one of the most famous markets in Europe, where, if you want, you can taste the typical products of Palermo cuisine: baked onions, panelle, cazzilli or crocchè (potato pancakes), olives, tomatoes, quarume (veal innards), meuza, spleen, which is normally eaten in a sandwich, arancini, Sicilian cannoli and much more!

And then the Norman Palace, the Zisa Castle, the Capuchin Catacombs and many other monuments, which the guide will tell you about and explain how to access them independently once the tour is over.

Don't miss it, we are waiting for you in Palermo with love!
