Along this stretch of about 2 km, starting from Lungarno Serristori and ending in Lungarno Soderini, the river is very peaceful. This will give you the opportunity to take wonderful photographs and bring beautiful memories home. The passage under the arches of the enchanting Ponte Vecchio has a romantic scenery with the goldsmith's shops that frame it.
Passing under Ponte Vecchio, built in 1345 by Taddeo Gaddi, you will notice its particular lowered arches, the first built in the world, which allowed the debris brought by the floods to flow away more easily. Did you know that on the Ponte Vecchio in the '300 there were popular shops, including the ancient butchers and vegetable farmers who unloaded their waste directly in the Arno? The construction of the Vasari Corridor in 1565, commissioned by Cosimo I de 'Medici, led over the years to the transfer of the butchers and other poor shops elsewhere, while goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewelers settled on the bridge, activities much more appreciated by the nobles who they walked daily from here.
