Tours / Montalcino and Montepulciano: the undisputed icon of all landscapes in the world

The Valdorcia landscape can be found on romantic posters, dreamy desktop backgrounds, author photos and is part of the Tuscan dream of every human being.

The reason? Because it is unquestionably the most beautiful landscape in the world, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for over twenty years.

Valdorcia is a handmade landscape, with rolling ocher hills, perfectly cylindrical haystacks scattered across the fields in a geometrically perfect but natural way. And yet rows of vines, olive trees, cypresses and mothers of grazing cows and sheep to supply the precious milk from which the unique pecorino of the Valdorcia is obtained, the famous Pecorino di Fossa di Pienza. The wines of Valdorcia are known all over the planet. Who has never heard of Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano?

Well, on board our minivan we will have time to enjoy these iconic landscapes and to enjoy these delights of the countryside, without forgetting the villages and abbeys that make the Valdorcia a fairytale place.

We will reach Montalcino as the first stop and we will stretch our legs by going around the town a bit, with its medieval fortress, to then leave for the vault of the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, which is located just above Montalcino, a monastic place, of peace, surrounded by cypresses, which contrast with the monumentality of the ancient stones of the abbey. We will then go to visit a splendid Brunello cellar and we will have a vertical tasting of Brunello di Montalcino with some Tuscan specialties to bite.

It's time to go and see the "Little Rome", Pienza, made to the taste and measure of Pope Pius II Piccolomini, who in the fifteenth century wanted to make his native town a Rome in miniature.

On the way we will stop briefly to see a very strange village, Bagno Vignoni, with its square completely filled with hot sulphurous water since ancient times, water typical of that thermal area, where natural springs of healing water flow.

Once we arrive in Pienza, we will take a walk through the narrow streets and squares and if you wish, you can stop in one of the excellent restaurants in the town. Our advice is obviously a stop in a cheese shop and taste the famous Pecorino di Fossa di Pienza.

Our last stop will be Montepulciano, where we will visit the oldest cellars in the world and have a tasting of Nobile di Montepulciano.

It will be a long, intense day, full of colours, flavours, smells and……stories of Tuscany!
