In the sixteenth century this house belonged to the great master Vasari and after the restoration of the frescoes it was decided to make it open for visits for a few years. All we have to do is take advantage of this very kind concession to be able to enjoy this work that the master painted for his own private use and which in a few years will return to the private use of the current owners.
Architect, painter, sculptor and author of the famous "Lives", he was therefore the biographer of the major representatives of the Tuscan Middle Ages and Renaissance.
He trained on the works of the master Michelangelo and like him he was therefore a versatile artist. Giorgio Vasari worked on the restyling of grand-ducal Florence in the mid-16th century, including the construction of the famous Uffizi Gallery with the annexed Vasari Corridor, which connects Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti.
Giorgio Vasari lived in Arezzo, but had to stay in Florence for a long time to take care of such an impressive "fabbriceria", as he himself called the Uffizi construction site, which lasted for twenty years. He received a palace near the Basilica of Santa Croce as a gift from Cosimo I dei Medici, so that he could also live adequately in Florence. The cycle of frescoes that Vasari created in his Florentine mansion is majestic and exalts the primacy of painting over all the arts with allegorical and mythological scenes.
